Meet new board member Henri Hupe

At this year's spring meeting, we welcomed Henri Hupe as a new board member of Portgruppen. We took the opportunity to ask a few questions to get to know Henri better and hear his thoughts on the industry, the future and the role of Portgruppen.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and your background?
My name is Henri Hupe and I run Nordisk Portservice AB with my employees. My professional background is quite broad and I have worked both in large groups with comprehensive processes and structures, in the manufacturing industry and in smaller local companies. This has given me experience of how businesses function and develop under very different conditions. Today my focus is Nordisk Portservice AB where we work with service, installation and sales in several locations in Stockholm–Mälardalen, Örebro/Närke and Skaraborg. I have previously been active in the Port Group as chairman.

How long have you worked in the port industry?
I have worked in the door industry for 26 years and have been able to follow both technical developments and how the requirements for safety, documentation and competence have increased.

What made you accept the position as a board member?
I still think it's a very exciting industry with great potential. So when I was asked, it felt natural to say yes. I believe in getting involved and trying to make an impact rather than standing on the sidelines and giving my opinion.

What issues do you see as most important for the industry in the coming years?
Safety and competence are two of the most important issues. We work with products that are large, heavy and often automated, which places high demands on both installation, service and ongoing maintenance. I also think that we need to work for clearer requirements for the companies operating in the industry. Serious companies invest a lot in training, work environment, documentation and safety. It is therefore important that we work together for an industry where quality and competence are valued and where competition takes place on equal terms. Another important issue is the supply of competence. We need to get more people to discover the door industry and show that there are interesting and long-term career opportunities here.

What do you hope to contribute to the board's work?
I hope to contribute with the perspective of a medium-sized service company and experiences from practical everyday life with customers. I like development and moving from discussion to concrete measures. I also believe that it is important that both large and small member companies feel that Portgruppen is working on issues that actually make a difference in their everyday lives. I also hope to be a good first contact for new companies interested in becoming members and to help clarify the value and benefits of membership.

How do you see the Port Group's role in the future?
I think that Portgruppen should be a strong and clear voice for the entire industry. We should contribute to raising knowledge and quality levels, drive safety issues and be involved in influencing rules, requirements and standards that affect our member companies. At the same time, membership should provide clear value. Customers and clients should feel that a company that is a member of Portgruppen stands for knowledge, quality, safety and seriousness. In the long term, I think that we should strive for membership in Portgruppen to become something that customers actively demand when they procure door contractors and service companies.

What do you want to send to member companies for the fall?
Get involved and use Portgruppen. Tell us what issues you encounter in your everyday life and what you think we as an industry organization need to pursue. We have a lot to gain from collaborating on the big common issues – safety, competence, quality and serious competitive conditions. If we do it together, we can both strengthen our member companies and raise the status of the industry as a whole.
