 CE marking of motorized gates

Motorized doors such as swing doors, sectional doors, folding doors, roller doors, shutters and gates must be CE marked before they are put into use. The CE marking shows that the door meets applicable safety requirements and EU regulations, which is confirmed by a nameplate, EC declaration of conformity and declaration of performance (DoP). The manufacturer and installer are responsible for correct CE marking, but the door owner remains responsible for safe operation and maintenance.

The CE marking is based on several regulations, including the Construction Products Regulation, the Machinery Directive, the EMC Directive and the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning regulations, where the standard EN 13241:2003+A2:2016 specifies requirements for performance, safety, testing and installation. Performance is tested by a certified test lab according to system 3, and for doors intended for fire or smoke protection, system 1 applies with additional certification requirements.

To CE-mark a door, technical documentation, risk assessment, instructions in Swedish, installation control and marking indicating manufacturer, model, year, performance and references to directives and DoP are required. Once the door has been put into operation, the owner is responsible for continuous control, service and any recurring or audit inspections depending on use and environment.
